An Oops In The Kitchen

An Oops In The Kitchen

Multitasking! It just didn’t happen last week.

Mr Mummy’s had organised the dinner, I had organised prep for the remaining orders of  Raspberry Moments, because there was the final of MKR to watch. Once dinner was consumed in the oven the Raspberry Moments went. Timer set (well that’s what I thought)! We’d get them baked cooled, packed, delivered on time the following day and everybody would be happy………….

I was very engrossed in MKR there was yet another break time, add breaks as a rule do my head in but on this occasion just as well in fact the ads hadn’t come soon enough. Thinking quietly to myself that the very loud timer hadn’t screamed beep beep I flew out to check how the Raspberry Moments were going – to my disappointment the timer hadn’t moved a minute it was still sitting at the bake time of 15 minutes. The biscuits were a shade of brown not their usual rich cream colour with a bright raspberry red centre. I did have a taste test they tasted fine but as the saying goes  ‘Baking Is Love Made Visible’ there was no way those babies were going  to be let out into the public eye.

Seriously 9.30 pm and another bake required so it was time to get my big girls pants on get back in the kitchen and get baking baby.

Midnight chimed in and the last of the packing was being done. A few hours sleep up and at em it was time for the next challenge a morning drive getting across the bridge from North Shore to the city.

Yay we made it. Baking complete, packing complete, deliveries complete and everybody was happy.

Christmas In July

Christmas In July

Christmas cakes ordered in July? Yep we sent out two Christmas cakes this week……… Mid – Winter Christmas celebrations or just another good reason to gather with family & friends, eat food, drink mulled wine and have a merry old time!

There is just something about the aromas of Christmas cakes as they bake. The combination of dried fruits. wonderful spices blended to the ingredients with a dash of brandy, brings back the festive memories every time. The taste & flavour is once again nostalgic.

The memories growing up. The making of the Christmas cake was a talking point. It was always made well in advance (time for the cake to mature was always best for the end result). Fruit would soak for days – it would be soaked in Ginger Ale, or depending on where you were from it may have been soaked in Whisky or Brandy! Back in the day I loved the smell, I really wanted to eat that beautiful smelling cake and always gave it a go but it always had that horrible mixed peel all through it. You know the bits you always spat out!

Over the years I’ve taken bits from several recipes, taken out the mixed peel & made up the quantities of fruit with sultanas, currants, dates & apricots. I believe we’ve got the mix just right and I love the traditional Christmas colours of red & green cherries and almonds to finish it off.

Not only do we love Christmas cake around here but a bite size Christmas Mince Pie never goes a miss, sprinkled with a dusting of icing sugar – magic.

Merry Mid Winter Christmas

High Time For High Tea

High Time For High Tea

It was time for Mummy’s Yummys Homebaking to play at Mummy’s Yummys house ……….what better way to do it than on a Sunday afternoon. Gather with family and friends for a cuppa, chit chat , loads of laughs and a bit of righting the world………… as you do!

High Tea has become something of a great way to gather whether it is celebrating a birthday, a milestone, a significant achievement or just to have a jolly good old cuppa and indulge in a wonderful assortment of food. Especially the foods that have built a story, foods that have created wonderful childhood memories, foods that you can share with others and they still full you with excitement.

There was nothing significant about yesterday apart from the fact that it was time to bring great company from many parts of my life together. A gathering of mums, daughters, daughter-in-laws, sisters, nannas, grandmas, aunties, cousins and long time friends. In fact a friend knocked on the door at 9.30am (got the right day wrong time) for a 2.30pm start (we have been friends since our very first working days at 15 so I thought it only polite to have a morning coffee with her) thanks Gina – sorry you couldn’t stay for the afternoon session!

Nan’s Jammy Tarts, Ginger Oatie Slice, Club Sandwhiches, Sausage Rolls, Mini Quiche & Lemon Cake were all on the menu………Nom! Nom!. Tea and coffee were served. A selection of great treasured china cups, plates & saucers along with the odd bit of silver added to the nostalgic atmosphere.

Our motto is “Fresh is Best” We bake with passion and send with love.

Mummy’s Yummys Homebaking Is Excited

Wow! Stoked to be a Farro Fresh feature. Farro Fresh has given us the opportunity to share our childhood favourites with their customers. We love that our yummys are bringing back nostalgic, happy memories for many and creating excitement for those that are new comers. If you’ve tried us we’d love to hear from you. If you haven’t you are missing out! What’s your favourite?

I had a warm fuzzy moment whilst making the weekly deliveries to the Farro stores last week. A customer approached a staff member & myself asking if  we could help her find some yummy cakes that she had purchased the week before……… they had a flaky base, jam in the middle & a sponge like top – with a cross of flaky puff. The staff member & myself had a little grin and we made the introduction. Yep they were Nan’s Jammy Tarts. The customer met the baker (actually Mr Mummy’s is the baker of Nan’s Jammy Tarts I just took all the glory). It was so neat to see & talk to somebody sharing the memory and the enjoyment they received from a good old fashioned recipe. As the customer grabbed her purchase & called out to her partner that she had met the lady that made the tarts (pointing me out) I thought to myself…….. yes we are real. I felt like royalty and what a wonderful thing to bring somebody happiness through our love of baking & sharing.

Mummy’s Yummys loves to send corporate gifts to clients. You choose the selection we bake it, pack it and send it with love. If you’d like to know a little bit more about us check us out at http://www.mummysyummys.flywheelsites.com

What’s fresh at Farro

Mummy’s Yummys was born out of the demand for traditional home baking and now offer Farro with freshly baked goods. They are based on Auckland’s North Shore and bake out of passion to offer delicious and tasty treats.

The art of home baking is virtually lost. With such a busy lifestyle few parents have time to bake in this day and age. Mummy’s Yummys saw a gap in the market and started their Homebaking business.

Mummy’s Yummys has combined traditional and modern recipes to create a selection of cakes, biscuits, slices and after dinner treats.

It has been 7 years since Mummy’s Yummys started sharing their Nanas, Grandmas and childhood favourite recipes. Originally their baking took place in a community kitchen, as the business grew they built an A- Grade commercial, purpose built kitchen.

At Mummy’s Yummys their motto is “fresh is best”. All of their products are individually made and they only bake to order using the best and simple ingredients.

We love the Coconut Creams – You can’t beat the taste and texture of toasted Coconut on the outside of these shortbread like textured biscuits put together with lashings of good old fashioned creamy butter icing.

However our favourites are Nan’s Jammy Tarts (Originally known as Cheesecakes) – We have vivid memories of these beauties growing up was eating them warm from the oven and trying not to burn your mouth on the jam! The flaky base a dollop of jam and a spongy top are a great combination.
